Crime scene entry log

Crime scene entry log…
This procedure is set in place in order to record what personnel enter specific crime scenes, this procedure has to be correctly performed within each crime scene. A crime scene entry log is a piece of documentation in which each individual who visits the crime scene has to fill in. The piece of documentation has numerous categories in which the individual needs to fill in. These consist of, Full name, Initials, Agency, the time entering and exiting the crime scene and the reasoning behind why they are within the crime scene. This piece of documentation should be accompanied by an officer who can certify whether individuals are authorised to be within the crime scene and they are not the media or general public. This step is very important within any investigation as it controls the access of the crime scene and if any evidence is lost or damaged personnel who attended the scene can be questioned as to whether they know the whereabouts of the evidence.

Crime scene entry log within the OJ Simpson case…
Within the murder investigation of Nicole and Ronald this procedure was not carried out, this had meant that no record of whom entered the crime scene and why has not been documented. Due to how high profile this case would be there was a mass police presence within the crime scene, however with no crime scene entry log being filled in the reasoning’s as to why these personnel where there was not documented. Due to the amount of police and detectives attending the scene it would have been beneficial for the prosecution if they followed this procedure correctly, as this error just added to the list of things the defence was able to question. This allowed the defence to argue that there could have been planting of evidence occurring upon the visitation of different personnel.
