Process of Elimination

Process of Elimination...

Process of elimination includes eliminating any potential suspects which have no relevance to the crime that has been committed. This can be shown through witness statements and evidence collected. Throughout the evidence DNA is usually found from the person who committed the act which can directly point the authorities in the right direction, however some crime scenes do not show any signs of other DNA. In this case the police will rely upon witness statements and their knowledge and understanding of what happened within the crime itself. However some witness statements can be misleading and unreliable. Witness statements can change over a period of time due to either memory loss of the crime due to shock or just because it was long ago it can also change due to people influencing the witness into changing their statement or withdrawing it from the police.

Process of elimination within the murder of Nicole Simpson and Ronald Goldman…

Within the investigation of the double murder there was an excessive amount of vital evidence pointing toward OJ Simpson. Not only did he have motive for the killing itself but also evidence of his being was there. He did not admit to the crime and to this day still pleads that he is innocent. There was a lot of speculation surrounding the topic of 'Placed evidence' meaning that there was questioning on whether the police planted evidence within the crime scene to point them in the direction that OJ was the killer. This came up in court and was one of the reasons OJ was acquitted for the crime. Within the investigation Mike Furhman was on OJ Simpson's premises to question him about a certain piece of evidence, however when there was no answer Furhman decided to climb over the back wall of OJ's premises. This action by Mike Furhman was done illegally without no warrant. Within the action that he took he found that there was blood smeared across OJ's back wall and the other bloody glove was found. However due to this being an illegal search without any warrant this evidence cannot be used within a court room. Mike Furhman was known to have a bad reputation when involved with the African American ethnicity as he was caught being racist upon camera, Furhman was also to have been accused of having Nazi propaganda upon his desk, he was then questioned within court which he lied about. The second time he took to the stand and questioned about it again he took his 5th amendment right to decline to answer any question. This also caused speculation on whether Furhman was trying to make OJ look guilty by planting evidence.

The main reason for him being found innocent was due to the way the evidence was handled by officers and the fact the evidence was not appropriately seized in a professional manner. When analysing the evidence the scientists had only a brief knowledge upon DNA and when presented their findings within court the technicality of the wording was too hard for the jury to understand. This meant that the judge had to acquit any biological evidence from the case due to there being no verdict surrounding it due to the lack of understanding. In conclusion the police and authorities actions and lack of professionalism meant that OJ Simpson was acquitted from this trial.
